AREA OF EXPERTISE:
First aid, cooking, good idea man and general all rounder - Haven’t found my Achilles heel yet anyway!
EXPERIENCE IN # OF MILES COVERED WITH TJB:
3500 and counting, the road is endless and JB keeps on keeping on!
ENDURANCE RACING HAS TAUGHT ME:
Pain and suffering are all a necessary part of the process, for TJB they are also inevitable and essential stepping stones on the road to achievement, accomplishment and success.
MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT SO FAR:
RAAM 2019: Watching Joe suffer in the Rocky Mountains as he took on Cucharas Pass, the last of three mammoth climbs varying between 5000 and 11000 feet in altitude. Joe was out on his feet as he struggled upwards, his O2 saturation was at a critical low and he was suffering from acute breathlessness - we had to administer oxygen to bring his saturation levels back up. This was one of the defining moments of TJB in RAAM 2019. After Joe's altitude sickness in 2012 we had to stay calm, and focused in the moment so that we could continue safely. It's a testament to the experience of Joe and the team that we managed the situation so well.
BEST MOMENT SO FAR:
Catching sunrise at Wicklow head during the east-west record attempt and reaching Slea head smashing the record at the perfect moment to see the golden sunset with such a fantastic unique group of individuals aka “TJB”.
SIGNATURE PHRASE WHEN RACING:
"This too shall pass!"
"Keep an eye on Zamboni!"
