WE MOVE AS ONE

MEET THE TEAM

MTT Joe image.png
JOE BARR

PRIMARY FUNCTION WITHIN THE TEAM

I build the bikes. I race the bikes and I be ‘me’.

STAND OUT MOMENT SO FAR

The race battle with Svata Bozak in 2018 Race Around Ireland was pretty special. It's my perfect race because he was such a great competitor.

MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT SO FAR

Getting to that finish line in Race Across America 2019. That race put me in the pain bath for days on end.

WHY I DO IT

Because it’s who I am.

MORE ABOUT JOE

JILLIAN MOONEY

AKA 'Calamity'

PRIMARY FUNCTION WITHIN THE TEAM

Nutrition expert, roadside cook, drive-by coffee barista who always delivers with a smile.

STAND OUT MOMENT SO FAR

Malin-Mizen-Malin World Record Nov 2017. On the first night there was a huge full moon that would have melted your heart it was so beautiful. It was pure magic to see Joe moving on the road at 3AM in the moonlight. It was an E.T moment for sure.

MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT SO FAR

Race Across America 2019  - the moment on day 11 when I wasn’t sure we could get Joe to the finish line. Watching him falling asleep between taking bites of buttered toast was profoundly heart-rending and difficult. Had we come so far only to come this far?

WHY I DO IT

I am at my best when I’m part of a team that is built around passion to explore what’s possible.

EAMONN DIVER

AKA 'The Navigator'

PRIMARY FUNCTION WITHIN THE TEAM

Route planning and navigation are my primary roles within the team; however, you do need to be prepared to be all things to all people at any given moment!

STAND OUT MOMENT SO FAR

Running alongside Joe as he somehow found the strength to get up and over Cuchara pass in Colorado during RAAM 2019.

MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT SO FAR

RAAM 2019, this was my 1st event so to say getting thrown in at the deep end would be an understatement - the fear of impacting negatively on Joe’s performance was always there in the background with me.

WHY I DO IT

I love a challenge & enjoy working & contributing to a successful & diverse team.

MORE ABOUT EAMONN

ANDREW (ANDY) McMULLAN

PRIMARY FUNCTION WITHIN THE TEAM

Physiotherapist and Sports Scientist but also a generalist who can drive, navigate, organise, clean, do dishes, analyse and generally bring spirits up.

STAND OUT MOMENT SO FAR

Race Across America (RAAM) - waking up in Kim, Kansas and rolling out with a blue dome overhead and grass as far as the eye could see split only by a single, rolling ribbon of tarmac heading east splashed with the colours of the occasional cyclist and their crews.

MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT SO FAR

2014 – Race Across America, day five crossing the Rockies, no sleep, a tired altitude suffering Joe, communication systems issues and RAAM in the balance. In fact this could have been Race Across America 2019 too.

WHY I DO IT

Working with a team under difficult situations in order that the team might succeed is fun in my book!

MARC POLAND

AKA ‘The Analyst’

PRIMARY FUNCTION WITHIN THE TEAM

Logistics, race planning and (American) English translator.  Hot standby as mechanic and training partner.

STAND OUT MOMENT SO FAR

Convincing Joe, whose thinking was clouded by eight days of racing more than 20 hours per day, that the math was still supporting achievement of his race goals

MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT SO FAR

Driving immediately behind Joe as he fell asleep momentarily – still pedaling, but veering off the roadside.

WHY I DO IT

Joe is the most experienced racer I’ve ever had the privilege to ride with, but beyond that, everyone on the team is incredibly knowledgeable and dedicated. I feel honoured to be a part of it and I learn from each teammate at every event.

MORE ABOUT MARC

NOEL CUSACK

PRIMARY FUNCTION WITHIN THE TEAM.

Capture the journey from behind the lense and bring the highs and the lows to our audience in real time. It’s important to me to show how we all work together to reach further.

STAND OUT MOMENT SO FAR

Being part of the crew in the 3000+ miles Race Across America 2019. I had never been outside Europe before and here I am involved in the toughest race in the world.

MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT SO FAR

Finding myself driving the crew car through the Mojave dessert in  the darkness during the race across America.

WHY I DO IT

For me, being given a chance to watch the master of endurance at work. No better place to be. It’s an opportunity to learn all about my passion and also help make history and break records.

HUGHIE GALLAGHER

STAND OUT MOMENT SO FAR

Being at the finish line to receive Joe as he broke his own Malin-Mizen-Malin World record by over 4 hours.

MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT SO FAR

Every moment in the routing car is challenging becuase "if we get it wrong, he'll get it wrong"! and that doesn't bear thinking about! So far. so good.

WHY I DO IT

I have cycled for over 30 years, doing various challenges and wanted to experience the world of the crew team!

The start of the West East West record attempt was

spectacular.

MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT SO FAR

Getting up from a deep sleep to help Joe with a

MATT MORRIS

PRIMARY FUNCTION WITHIN THE TEAM

Driver, problem solver, motivator and token Welsh man.

STAND OUT MOMENT SO FAR

Having not been with the team long, my stand out moment was when Joe broke his own North-South-North World Record by 4 hours under horrendous conditions. It was truly inspirational.

MOST CHALLENGING MOMENT SO FAR

Staying awake and focused during that record. Joe was struggling to stay awake and the team had to be rock solid to allow Joe to do his thing.

WHY I DO IT

I love being part of a team! Since leaving the military this is one of the best teams I have ever worked with. You also learn so much that you can take into your own game.
