You know we love our Whites Oats. They take us forward, further and faster every day.
This year they’ve taken us from the most northerly point in Ireland, Malin Head to the most southerly point in Ireland, Mizen Head and back again in world record-breaking time.
Well, to celebrate the humble oat on Oct 10th World Porridge Day we thought we’d complete all directions by racing from the most westerly point in Ireland, Slea Head, Co. Kerry to the most easterly point in Ireland, Wicklow lighthouse and back again, setting a new World Ultra-Cycling Association Record at the same time.
Total distance - 480 miles
Total climbing - 21,200 feet
Total time – sub 27 hours, both directions. There’s also the matter of breaking our own
East - West record of 13-hours and 32-mins set in 2019 while we’re at it. That’s no mean feat given that we’ll be attempting to break it having raced 240 miles already.

To say the updated course is breathtakingly beautiful is no exaggeration. It’s the best of mystical Ireland and if by chance we get the weather and the turning of the leaves it will be a kaleidoscope of autumnal color.
We’re so excited about this course that we’ll be adding it to the Race Joe Barr family in 2021 under the name Coast 2 Coast Ultra. You’ll be able to race it one way from West to East (240 miles) or you can race both directions (480 miles). Two very handy distances to finish the endurance season off!
For all you avid dot-watchers, there will be LIVE TRACKING so you can follow us as we race across the country and back again. Do come out on course and wave. Your support is added fuel.
And yes, the Spiegel Diablo will get to race again as we’ll be needing some very special Spiegel speed to put that record under 27 hours.
We’ll be running a team of 6, the usual suspects and even some unusual ones!
As before, we have conducted a robust COVID risk assessment and will be adhering to guidelines strictly.
